About the Author
A doctorate in social epidemiology was earned at Columbia University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His undergraduate degree was in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. Epidemiology has been his life's work for more than three decades. As an assistant professor of epidemiology at Columbia University, he was also an assistant professor of pediatrics and community health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and was also an assistant professor of health science at Brooklyn College. His subsequent position was as director of the Orange County Public Health Department's Field Epidemiology Unit. At the University of California, Irvine, he taught medicine, neurology, and social ecology. He currently serves as a Professor and Chair of the Health Science Department at California State University, Long Beach, where he has taught introductory epidemiology and biostatistics. A prolific author who has published more than 50 professional and scientific articles, he has participated in numerous epidemiologic research projects. A member of the American Public Health Association and the Society for Epidemiologic Research. A Clinical Professor of Community and Environmental Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, he also teaches courses related to environmental health.
